I'm excited to confirm that we have arranged another initiative as part of our focus this month on mens health and wellbeing.
Simon Coverdale (Ox member) has recently completed the Master of Applied Positive Psychology course at the University of Melbourne and is going to run a session to discuss the latest research and theories from the field.
Positive psychology is a relatively new field which was introduced to counter traditional psychology and its focus on problems and what can go wrong in life by bringing a focus to strengths and what is good about life.
While positive psychology is popular with elite, high performers, its main focus is on everyday people and helping them to get more out of life.
Despite its name, positive psychology is not just about trying to be 'positive' all the time, but rather accepting the full suite of experiences in life and trying to get the most from them.
Positive psychology can also help to build resources and resilience to better cope with the tough times when they do come.
Importantly, it is a science, so it is backed up by solid evidence.
Simon is passionate about guys tapping into the benefits of positive psychology as they have generally been under-represented in the field.
I'm sure this is going to be a very interesting and engaging session. It is a great fit for our focus this month, and everything else we do at the Ox, and I encourage you all to get involved (and bring your brothers, uncles, mates, etc).
